ABSTRACTDespite the burgeoning literature on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, there are few empirical findings to guide clinicians and researchers in anticipating how individuals with PTSD will fare over a time span of years. This chapter first briefly overviews current findings about the course of PTSD and then identifies reasons why longitudinal investigations of PTSD have been largely bypassed by PTSD researchers.
