ABSTRACT

It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to speak at this Symposium in memory of Franz Greiter. I first met Professor Greiter at the 8th International Congress of Photobiology, when he came to our poster in which we proposed for the first time that UV-irradiated urocanic acid may have a role as an immune modulator. He was very curious about our work, and although our studies must have presented somewhat of an inconvenience for him as he had considered using urocanic acid in his sunscreens, he was scientific and open minded enough to support me when I worked for six months in the laboratories of Professors Stingl and Wolff at the University of Vienna.
