ABSTRACT

Plant cells are divided into distinct compartments surrounded by a single or a double membrane. Two of these subcellular structures, mitochondria and chloroplast, fulfill various bioenergetic functions. In addition to the oxidative phosphorylation providing energy in non photosynthetic tissues or during the dark period, mitochondria contribute to important metabolite biosynthesis (amino acids, phospholipids, nucleotides). For their part, chloroplasts are the location not only of photosynthesis, but also of many metabolic processes (fatty acid synthesis, starch metabolism, ammonium assimilation… ). More... »
