ABSTRACT

All fundamental vibrational transitions of molecules are in the infrared region. At the same time only few molecules have electronic absorption bands in the visible. Such situation is not favourable for performing molecular spectroscopy measurements in the visible range which is very convenient for several reasons (tunable laser sources, sensitive detectors). On the other hand, due to transparency of molecular gases for visible radiation, the Sun light can easily penetrate through the atmosphere what is of the primary importance for all kind of life on the Earth. 35 schema:description All fundamental vibrational transitions of molecules are in the infrared region.
