ABSTRACT

Cardiac mechanics has been studied at various levels of the circulatory system. In systems physiology, the heart is considered a pump whose property is characterized by an input-output relation. However, recent advances in biochemistry and molecular biology have revealed aspects of the internal structure of this black box at the molecular level (1).
