ABSTRACT

The analysis of metacognition in a professional context sheds light on how knowledge can regulate activity. For individual and collective tasks, metacognitive knowledge is noted as helping operators perform complex tasks. It helps regulate the operation of cognition, not in view of improving its performance but to adjust its use according to the constraints at hand. Metacognitive knowledge helps regulate the imprecision of cognitive operations rather than their accuracy. More... »
