ABSTRACT

Since its introduction, contrast enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) has rapidly replaced all the various unenhanced angiographic sequences, becoming one of the reference stand for noninvasive vascular imaging, leading to an increased clinical utilization of gadolinium based contrast agents (GBCA). This chapter describes the basic concepts of contrast enhanced MR imaging, providing considerations on bioavailability and pharmacokinetics, as well as detailed discussion on the current safety issue of GBCA.
