ABSTRACT

In. recent years students of children’s drawings have suggested that we pay closer attention to the rules that govern the drawing process, and that we examine the serially ordered performance that yields a graphic figure (Freeman, 1980; Goodnow, 1977). The sequence in which parts are drawn has keen related to performance “errors” exemplified by the typical tadpole figure which lacks arms and a trunk. Freeman (1980) has suggested that the temporal and spatial ordering of the drawn parts of the human figure favours the end-points in a series, in this case the head and the legs, while the mid-points in the series tend to be forgotten.
