ABSTRACT

The behavior of molecules possessing large amounts of internal vibrational energy is the subject of a great deal of current attention, particularly at this workshop. Such highly excited molecular species are encountered in a variety of situations: in addition to the pre-eminent case of multiple infrared-photon excitation with high-intensity lasers1,2, these systems can be prepared by stimulated-emission pumping3, by chemical excitation4, and even by thermal excitation, for example, in flames5.
