ABSTRACT

Temper embrittlement is one of the most serious problems associated with the fracture of medium-strength quenched and tempered steels. Considerable progress has been made in recent years towards an understanding of the mechanisms of this embrittlement, which arises due to the segregation of impurity elements (eg P, S, Sb, Sn and As) to prior austenite grain boundaries,1,2 leading to intergranular failure.
