ABSTRACT

An extensive introductory survey is given of geometric, time-dependent methods in spectral and scattering theory of Schrödinger operators. We prove asymptotic completeness in potential scattering for short-range and some long-range interactions (including Coulomb forces), and we derive weaker statements about asymptotically free motion for wider classes of potentials. Some properties of bound states and their energies are given as well. The emphasis is on the concepts and methods of this approach and we present various alternative routes to obtain the results.
