ABSTRACTThe Zea mays chloroplast chromosome is an 91,100,000 dalton calculated to be compromised of about 135 kilobase pairs (KBP) (Kolodner and Tewari, 1975; Bedbrook and Bogorad, 1976). All the recognition sites for the restriction endonuclease Sal I as well as some recognition sites for Eco RI and Bam HI have been mapped on it (Bedbrook and Bogorad, 1976) and the locations and arrangements of two sets of genes for 16S, 23S and 5S chloroplast rRNAs of maize were established by Bedbrook, Kolodner and Bogorad (1977). In addition, structural genes for two proteins have been identified and assigned to mapped and cloned restriction fragments (Coen et al.; 1977; Bedbrook McIntosh, Link and Bogorad, 1979). More... »
