ABSTRACT

Heteropoly compounds are complex, multi-element substances that are generally found with a high molecular weight anion, and a smaller cation. Although there are a number of structural forms for such compounds, a group of the most interesting ones possesses anions in which the central atom is located at the center of a tetrahedron of oxygen atoms, which is itself surrounded by octahedra composed of oxygen and one other element, resulting in a cage-like structure.
