ABSTRACT

We report electron microscope observations of compound formation in Ni/Al composite powders by shock loading. Reactions with substantial yield are seen in outer areas of a recovered specimen, while unreacted or locally reacted regions are seen in the center and middle areas of the specimens. Ni3Al is formed in a gamma solid-solution of Ni. The microstructure is very complex. More... »
