ABSTRACT

The distribution of the magnetic lines in a tokamak plasma per — turbed by resonant helical windings is considered. A Hamiltonian perturbation theory is applied to investigate the break-up of magnetic surfaces inside the plasma for large aspect-ratio tokamaks. This effect is also investigated integrating numerically the line equations, obtaining a Poincaré mapping of these non-integrable fields in order to analyse the extent of satellite magnetic islands and chaotic regions. Average invariants are also obtained to describe approximately the field lines distribution inside the plasma. More... »
