ABSTRACT

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infectious mononucleosis (IM) and even subclinical EBV infections have traditionally been reported to occur uncommonly among intimate contacts of an index case (1). Yet EBV infections must spread efficiently because most children become infected early in life (2).
