ABSTRACT

The developing oocyte alone is not capable of generating all the different proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, metabolites, etc. that make up the mature egg. Oogenesis is therefore a most appropriate example in development of a precisely coordinated division of labor between different tissues of an organism.
