ABSTRACT

Intramedullary nailing is a reliable procedure for the surgical fixation of proximal humeral fractures. Humeral nail design determines the biomechanical characteristics of the implant. Straight nails with three-dimensional proximal locking options are suitable for the management of simple as well as for complex three- and four-part fractures. Nails are also biomechanically advantageous in humeral head fractures extending into the shaft and in segmental fractures of the humeral head and shaft. The choice of the correct entry portal determines the final reduction result. Recent studies show predominantly good to excellent results even in complex fractures More... »
