ABSTRACT

Investigations of disturbances of the communication monitoring and control component are the least researched, although the history of the research has been rather long. The classical aphasiologists of the last century distinguished among the symptoms of sensory forms of aphasia disturbances in the monitoring of speech and the patient’s unawareness of his or her own speech defects. As shown by L.S. Tsvetkova (1975), the monitoring function may become disturbed in aphasia as a sequelae of specific defects characteristic of certain forms of aphasia, for instance, disturbances of phonemic hearing, and also due to a change in the neurodynamic aspect of mental processes, i.e., due to the increased amount of time necessary for the processing of verbal information during its decoding and encoding.
