ABSTRACT

One of the main challenges facing the development of Quantum Information Technology is the difficulty associated with transmission of quantum information over lossy and noisy channels. Our approach to mitigating this problem relies on the use of fiber-based devices generating entanglement to be used as a shared quantum resource in the quantum communication network. This approach offers the advantage of technological synergy between the generation and propagation components of the overall quantum network. In this paper we present our initial work that is focused on the realization of pulsed, quantum-correlated systemsthat can be used as building blocks for fiber-based sources of quadrature and polarization entanglement. We have evaluated several different schemes in order to determine which one can satisfy the demanding specifications of the quantum network. More... »
