ABSTRACT

Mutations in α-synuclein (αS) and parkin cause monogenic forms of inherited Parkinson disease (PD). We report here the unexpected finding that parkin is a constituent of the αS containing pathological neuronal inclusions (Lewy body) found in PD and in the closely related disorder, dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
