ABSTRACT

These lectures are about the d-dimensional Burgers equation (1.1) Note that the constraint that v be derived from a (velocity) potential ψ is trivially satisfied if d = 1. The word “burgulence”, as we use it here, is a contraction of “Burgers” and “turbulence”. It means “the study of random solutions to the Burgers equation”. The randomness may arise because random initial conditions v0 = - ∇ψ0 are given or because a random driving force f = - ∇F is added to the r.h.s. of (1.1), or both. When f = 0 one speaks about “decaying burgulence”. More... »

The word “burgulence”, as we use it here, is a contraction of “Burgers” and “turbulence”. It means “the study of random solutions to the Burgers equation”. The randomness may arise because random initial conditions v0 = - ∇ψ0 are given or because a random driving force f = - ∇F is added to the r.h.s. of (1.1), or both. When f = 0 one speaks about “decaying burgulence”.
