ABSTRACT

We review several nonlinear atom optical approaches to the generation of entangled particle beams. The systems being considered, which involve both atomic pairs and atom-photon pairs, may find applications in high-precision spectroscopy, atomic interferometry and quantum information processing. All schemes deal with strictly ground atomic states, a considerable advantage, since the resulting entanglement and squeezing is therefore robust against decoherence and immune from the quantum fluctuations caused by the electromagnetic vacuum field modes.
