ABSTRACT

The Lane model1) provides a convenient way to relate isospin-coupled reaction channels. This approach exploits the isospin symmetry of the nuclear force and yields nuclear potentials which strictly conserve isospin. We have attempted2) to simultaneously describe cross-section and polarization results for both elastic proton and neutron scattering and the quasi-elastic (p, n) reaction, all on a single nucleus. Our results represent the first time the Lane model has been successfully extended to a light nucleus. In fact, no previous calculation has described such a comprehensive set of observables for any nucleus. The present paper calls attention to this success and proposes that the model be similarly applied for very light nuclei. More... »
