ABSTRACT

Chemical composition, structure and magnetic properties of encapsulated in carbon powder particles obtained by arc discharge between carbon electrodes containing Ni2Y catalyst were investigated. It has been found that the composition and magnetic properties of the encapsulates obtained in this process substantially differ from those of the starting intermetallic compound Ni2Y. Decomposition mode for the Ni2Y compound, undergoing in the course of arch discharge, has been proposed. Mean particle size of the encapsulated metal has been found to vary within a range of about 5–42 nm. The evidence for the variation of the particles lattice parameters with the change of their size is also presented. More... »
