ABSTRACT

In this paper we introduce the MTG* model - a successor to the MultiThread Graph (MTG) model - that intends to expose task level parallelism and dynamic and non-deterministic behavior in advanced multimedia and telecom applications. After informal introduction of some core model concepts, we focus on the constructs in the MTG* model to represent dynamic and non-deterministic behavior in such applications, based on the new concept of an MTG* thread frame. Extensions of MTG* to arrive at a Gray-Box model are introduced as a way to manage large and complex designs with dynamic concurrent behavior, without loosing a global view on the system behavior. We briefly touch upon how the Gray-Box model enables modern design methodologies to take into account the dynamic characteristics, while trying to make a power consumption efficient implementation of the application on an embedded multi-processor hardware platform. Finally, a prototype Gray-Box simulator is demonstrated on a dynamic video recorder test vehicle. More... »
