ABSTRACT

Provided is a magnetic element that is capable of generating one skyrmion and eliminating the one skyrmion, said magnetic element having: a substantially rectangular, plate-like magnetic body; an upstream electrode comprising a nonmagnetic metal and connected in the width (Wm) direction of the magnetic body; a downstream electrode comprising a nonmagnetic metal, connected in the width (Wm) direction of the magnetic body, and opposing the upstream electrode; and a skyrmion detection element that detects skyrmions. When the diameter of the skyrmion is defined as λ, the width (Wm) of the substantially rectangular magnetic body is 3∙λ < Wm ≥ λ, the length (Hm) of the substantially rectangular magnetic body is 2∙λ < Hm ≥ λ.
