ABSTRACT

Disclosed is a nucleic acid having a novel artificial base pair. Also disclosed is a method for preparation of the nucleic acid. Further disclosed is use of the nucleic acid. The nucleic acid has a base pair formed between a nucleotide which has a substituted or unsubstituted 2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl group as a base and a nucleotide which has a 6-substituted 9H-purin-9-yl group as a base. The nucleic acid can be prepared by a method comprising the step of performing transcription, reverse transcription or replication using, as a template, a nucleic acid containing a nucleotide having a substituted or unsubstituted 2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl group as a base to integrate the nucleotide having the 6-substituted 9H-purin-9-yl group into a position complementary to the nucleotide having the substituted or unsubstituted 2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl group in the nucleic acid.
