ABSTRACTA DBMS-based knowledge extension and inference service system comprises a knowledge creating unit that creates knowledge represented as a triple by using ontology schemas and instances; a knowledge extension processing unit that receives the knowledge created by the knowledge creating unit and extends the knowledge by using a knowledge extension rule; and an inference service providing unit that uses the knowledge extended by the knowledge extension processing unit and converts and processes a user query so as to provide an inference service. In the DBMS-based knowledge extension and inference service system, ontology is used to create knowledge, the knowledge is extended by using an extension rule, and an inference service is provided through query processing, thereby proposing a framework which is stable and effective in all fields where the Semantic Web is utilized and an inference service needs to be provided.
