ABSTRACT

The present invention relates to graphitization of cast iron and, in particular, the present invention provides a process for graphitizing cast iron with a white pig iron structure as a malleable cast iron casting, which process makes it possible to shorten the time for graphitization and improve the mechanical properties.A process for graphitizing cast iron with a white pig iron structure, having a composition which satisfies the following weight percentage conditions: 3.0% ≦ C + 1/3Si ≦ 4.5%, 1.0% ≦ Si ≦ 4.5%, 2.0% ≦ C, comprising heating the cast iron, during graphitization thereof, to a heating temperature of 900 to 1050°C, the cast iron being heated to 900°C within 60 sec, and annealing the cast iron.
