ABSTRACT

The present invention relates to a new, essentially pure, regulatory DNA sequence which is obtainable from the 5 'region of a plant chitinase gene and which, when operably linked to any expressible DNA, leads to greatly increased expression rates in transformed plants. The present invention further relates to recombinant DNA molecules which contain the DNA sequence according to the invention in operable linkage with an expressible DNA and the vectors derived therefrom, furthermore host cells and / or host organisms, including transgenic plants, the said recombinant DNA or those derived therefrom Vectors included. Also included in the present invention is a new chitinase gene derived from Nicotiana tabacum L. c.v. Havana 425 plants are available and which contains the regulatory DNA sequence according to the invention in its 5'-non-translated region. More... »
