This interdisciplinary journal advances the proposition that all aspects of health and healthcare delivery can be appreciated from a systems perspective.

The underpinning philosophy of the journal Health Systems is that complexity and interconnectedness are innate characteristics of health and healthcare systems: in essence, \"everything affects everything else\". The principal mission of the journal is to bring together proven critical disciplines in health, and to provide a forum that entertains diverse viewpoints and explores qualitative, quantitative, and conceptual research approaches.

The editors believe that problems in healthcare must be viewed holistically as an integrated system of components that include people, organizations, technology and resources and perspectives. The journal regards this systems approach as being widely applicable to all areas of health and healthcare delivery, from public health to hospitals, primary care, telemedicine, disparities and community health.

The principal mission of the journal is to bring together proven critical disciplines in health, and to provide a forum that entertains diverse viewpoints and explores qualitative, quantitative, and conceptual research approaches. A further objective of the journal is to foster innovative work which blends the expertise of contributors from different disciplines into a genuine interdisciplinary outcome.

Health Systems is an official journal of the Operations Research Society.
