ABSTRACT

The mechanism of mass spectrometer working in the atmosphere or low vacuum will be researched in this paper. The difference of ion moving between in the vacuum and in the atmosphere(or low vacuum) is the resistance that the pressure is more higher, the resistance is more greater. In the vacuum, the pattern of ion's moving can be described by Mathieu Function, because the resistance is close to zero. But in the atmosphere or low vacuum, the pattern of ion's moving can't be described by Mathieu Function, because the resistance is not zero.So the mathieu must be modified to establish a new and suitable theoretical model. The pattern of ion's moving in the atmosphere or low vacuum that can cause resistance is the main content of this paper. First,a model of ion's moving will be established by modifing the Mathieu Funciton. Second, the pattern of ion's moving in the airflow field and electric field will be simulated by the software COMSOL. A method of controlling the ions in the atmosphere or low vacuum will be found. At last, by changing the pressure, the previous simulation will be test in the MS experiment platform. . Theoretically, this research reduces the requirements for the vacuum of the traditional mass spectrometer. So the cost, power consumption, volume and weight of mass spectrometer will be reduced. It will be used widely in the field of site testing such as food safety, environmental monitoring etc. More... »
