ABSTRACT

On the eve of the approaching anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, questions arise about the course, results and meaning of the Great War, what is more they gain in importance. If one accepts the assumption that catastrophes such as fascism, the Holocaust, the Vietnam War, emerged from the technical, political and imaginative structures created in 1914-18, the witness of literature leads to a deeper understanding of injustice and violence, and therefore leads to the strengthening of pacifist attitudes. While the early war literature has received numerous studies, there have been few monographs on the reinterpretation of the Great War in contemporary works. The results of our research should be interesting for researchers and students of British, French and Canadian culture, and the languages in which publications will be developed (English, French, Polish) will make the results of the project available to a wide range of readers. The final analysis within one monograph of texts devoted to this subject, created in recent years in Great Britain, France and Canada, is also an innovative aspect of the project. More... »
