ABSTRACT

The aim of the project is to determine the suitability of modified graphene materials as selective membranes with improved efficiency in the separation of liquid and gas mixtures and the relationship between the structure of these materials and transport properties of the membrane. The project will create various forms of graphene material, ie: porous graphene produced using the chemical vapor deposition technique (CVD), graphene oxide (GO) obtained from graphite by chemical exfoliation, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and functionalized oxide graphene (f-GO). Thanks to obtaining various forms of graphene it will be possible to perform two different flow mechanisms, ie: through pores present in the graphene structure (material obtained using CVD on specially prepared substrates) and between separated graphene layers (material obtained from GO, RGO and f -HIM). For porous graphene layers, the influence of the number of layers and pore sizes on the selectivity and permeability of membranes will be investigated. Graphene materials will be properly deposited on the flitration media (ceramic or polymer) by vacuum or direct application (transfer or dropping from suspension). Separation properties for selected mixtures of liquids and gases will be checked on the resulting materials. More... »
