ABSTRACT

China's rise needs enterprise independent innovation, but there are serious trade barriers among regions of China, How regional trade barriers affect an enterprise's independent innovation? This study analyzes the influence mechanisms of China's regional trade barriers on enterprise independent innovation using a combination of theoretical and empirical methods systematically. We construct a benchmark model on the basis of improving the classical Cournot model and Bertrand model, and expand the model according to industry, firm ownership, period and goal differences. Through the analysis of influence mechanisms of trade barriers on enterprise independent innovation under different assumptions, we sort out premise conditions that free trade and trade protection could promote innovation. According to building regional trade barriers index and obtaining large sample of panel data by matching with the Chinese industrial enterprise database, together with enterprise investigation data, we identify the influence mechanisms of trade barriers on the enterprise independent innovation by static and dynamic panel method.
