ABSTRACT

The project seeks to understand the underlying causes of the current crisis of liberal democracies through the prism of political philosophy and, based on the critical discussion of existing contributions, also to propose possible answers and ways of solution. The critical diagnosis of liberal democracy presupposes the analysis of its theoretical, conceptual and normative pillars; after the deconstructive phase, the reconstruction phase follows, seeking a more robust justification and re-thinking of the liberal democratic mode of government. In general, we are interested in the ability of political philosophy to respond to the current political and constitutional crisis of liberal democracies. The project is divided into four mutually interconnected parts: (1) methodological issues of democratic theory (realism and idealism, uncertainties of concepts, (2) tensions of democracy and constitutionalism, alternatives to constitutional democracy, (3) models of political representation and majority principle of decision- human dignity in the conditions of pluralism and the call for public justification The ambitions of the project include both the desirable direction of Czech debates and the contribution to discussions within the international expert community More... »
