ABSTRACT

A novel liquid crystalline epoxy resin, two series of liquid crystal curing agent and curing accelerators were synthesized and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, polarizing microscope, WAXD and SAXS. The curing behavior, curing kinetics, dynamic mechanical behavior, morphology and impact strength of liquid crystal epoxy resin / liquid crystal curing agent and curing accelerator systems were systematically studied. The result shows that, (1) the liquid crystal curing accelerator can not only promote the curing reaction, but also can cure epoxy resin directly. The glass transition temperature and thermal stability of liquid crystal epoxy resin / curing agent systems are better than general epoxy curing systems;(2) For the first time, using dynamic mechanical method, it is confirmed that, the ? relaxation(50-100℃)exists between the ? relaxation (glass transition) and ? relaxation(around -50℃) in the liquid crystal epoxy resin / curing agent system, however this relaxation does not exist in the ordinary epoxy resin /curing agent system without liquid crystal structural unit. It can be confirmed that the ? relaxation is related to the relaxation of the liquid crystal unit and further results show that the relaxation strength increases with the increase of methylene units of liquid crystal curing agent, the strength of More... »
