ABSTRACT

The Chinese speech intelligibility and its relationship with speech transmission index (STI) will be studied according the newest international standard for speech purpose hall in the project, which utilizes the method that combines the objective acoustical measurement, room acoustical simulation and the subjective evaluation and uses auralization technique under the different reverberation time, different signal-to-noise ratio and different listening conditions. The relationship between Chinese speech intelligibility scores and speech transmission index was verified and validated through the objective acoustical measurement and the subjective speech intelligibility evaluation in actual rooms. The Chinese speech intelligibility scores under different speaking rate, different speech level and different signal-to-noise ratio condition was also investigated. The difference of Chinese and English speech intelligibility under the same test condition was explored systematically. The effect of the frequency spectrum characteristic and direction of sound sources on speech intelligibility scores was also discussed. A series of results have been obtained.
