ABSTRACT

This project supported us to dissect a cytokinin-mediated ethylene biosynthesis that is regulated via a ser/thr kinase ATR3. In this study, we show that ART3 is able to mediate ethylene production via ACS5, an ACC synthase. In the acs5 mutant background, ATR3 failed to induced ethylene production. In other ethylene-sensitive mutants, or the silver treatment that prevents ethylene response, ATR3-mediated ethylene response is blocked. These data provide other support to our argument that ATR3 acts via the ethylene production, but not signaling. In a cytokinin biosynthesis-defective mutant, ATR3 was unable to cause ethylene over-production, leading to a conclusion that the ATR3-mediated ethylene evolution requires cutokinin. Our data reveal a network of ethylene and cytokinin interactions. More... »
