ABSTRACT

During the project, I have developed a wide array of general purpose machine learning algorithms applicable for complex multi-task and transfer learning problems. The focus has been especially in methods that can simultaneously generalize for both new data and new learning tasks neither of which have been seen during the training phase. The scalability and computational efficiency of the new learning algorithms has been ensured with matrix algebraic optimization. The implementations of the most important methods are have been gathered into RLScore, an open source licenced machine learning algorithm toolbox, freely available for other researchers. In addition to developing machine learning algorithms, the project has also produced their successful practical applications in various fields, including text mining and bioinformatics among others.
