ABSTRACT

Graphene is one of most multifunctional material known. Especially in the field of optics and electronics the unique properties of graphene open a nice platform for futuristic devices. However, the use of graphene is hampered by the challenges in producing this material. This intended project aims on finding a suitable technique for high quality graphene synthesis on a predetermined substrate. The technique is based on use of a pre-deposited catalyst layer which assists graphene to grow on well-defined areas. The technique would open a novel route to deposit graphene on desired areas on micro- and nanoscale applications. Beside the direct graphene synthesis, the project focuses on new techniques to merge nanocarbon science and photonics. The ultimate goal is to harness the new graphene synthesis technique to serve the optical waveguide applications. More... »
